EchoStar, valued around $14.5 billion, sold its American spectrum allocation to AT&T for $23 billion. AT&T will acquire 30 MHz of nationwide 3.45 GHz mid-band spectrum and approximately 20 MHz of nationwide 600 MHz low-band spectrum to improve nationwide 5G wireless and home internet coverage. EchoStar will become a smaller ISP and transition into a hybrid mobile network operator under AT&T's aegis while Dish Network, Boost Mobile, Sling TV and the Open RAN network remain unaffected. The transaction helps address FCC complaints about unused spectrum. Proceeds will be used to retire debt and fund continued operations and innovation.
