Airline to cut 61 jobs at Logan Airport
"Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines Group, will cut 61 jobs at Boston Logan International Airport in November as it ends its ground handling services there. In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act notice to the state on Sept. 19, Piedmont Airlines announced that it would commence furloughs on Nov. 18. Piedmont operates nearly 400 daily departures from Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Chicago to more than 55 cities throughout the eastern United States."
"The airline expects the furlough to be permanent, but will keep employees on furlough status for four years. The company said agents have limited bumping rights into other locations. Bumping rights let laid-off workers replace the jobs of less senior employees within the same company. Still, the company is actively soliciting transfer requests and is working with affected employees to provide resources, guidance, and opportunities within the company where possible."
