"After lifting his team to its first two-game winning streak of the season, Michael Porter Jr. missed Thursday's matchup against the Utah Jazz. Porter sat out the back end of Thursday's back-to-back with lower back injury management. Rookie Drake Powell also missed Thursday's game with left knee injury management. "It's the first time this season the Nets used such designation for Porter, who has dealt with several back injuries during his career. Porter missed the second game of a back-to-back on Nov. 3 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but that DNP happened for personal reasons. Entering Friday, the injury-plagued Porter missed four games in the 2025-26 NBA season. That comes after missing just five regular-season games in 2024-25 and only one in 2023-24."
"Before then, he missed 213 of 329 total NBA regular-season games (including an entire rookie season after undergoing second back surgery) since being drafted No. 14 overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2018 draft. Thursday's DNP comes after two of Porter's best games of the season: 35 points, seven rebounds and four assists against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday and 33 points, 10 rebounds and fives assists against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday."
Michael Porter Jr. did not play Thursday against the Utah Jazz due to lower back injury management, and rookie Drake Powell missed with left knee injury management. The Nets designated Porter for injury management for the first time this season; his earlier DNP on Nov. 3 was for personal reasons. Porter has missed four games in 2025-26 after limited absences the prior two seasons, and he previously missed 213 of 329 career regular-season games, including a season lost to a second back surgery. Porter averaged 25.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists with the Nets; Powell averaged 6.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
