During a promotional tour in New York City, a Mexican navy sailing ship named Cuauhtemoc collided with the Brooklyn Bridge while navigating the East River. The impact caused the top of its three masts to snap and partially collapse, resulting in injuries to 19 people including four serious cases. Eyewitnesses reported heavy traffic on the bridge at the time of the incident, and although the bridge itself sustained no major damage, the cause of the collision is currently under investigation. Eyewitness accounts captured the dramatic moment the masts broke and sailors were seen aloft.
An eyewitness described the scene saying, "We were just watching the sunset when suddenly the ship crashed into the bridge. It was surreal seeing one of the masts snap right before our eyes."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams reported, "The quick response of emergency services helped mitigate the situation, but unfortunately, 19 people faced injuries during this incident."
