Two teens found dead from subway surfing in NYC: Sources
"Two teen girls were found dead at a Brooklyn subway station early Saturday morning after subway surfing, sources told Nexstar's PIX11 News. The two girls were pronounced dead at the scene after authorities found them unconscious and unresponsive at the Marcy Ave/Broadway subway station in Williamsburg around 3:10 a.m., sources said. The girls were unidentified but appeared to be between 13 to 15-years-old, according to sources."
"It's heartbreaking that two young girls are gone because they somehow thought riding outside a subway train was an acceptable game. Parents, teachers, and friends need to be clear with loved ones: getting on top of a subway car isn't "surfing"-it's suicide. I'm thinking of both the grieving families, and transit workers who discovered these children, all of whom have been horribly shaken by this tragedy."
Two unidentified female teens, appearing to be 13 to 15 years old, were found unconscious and unresponsive at the Marcy Ave/Broadway subway station in Williamsburg around 3:10 a.m. and were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is part of a rising pattern of harm from subway surfing, with at least three fatalities year to date and 114 people apprehended by the NYPD for subway surfing so far this year. NYC Transit leadership called riding outside a subway car "suicide" and urged parents, teachers, and friends to warn young people. Transit workers and grieving families were described as horribly shaken by the tragedy.
