On Sunday, approximately 1,500 demonstrators in southern Brooklyn protested against the 'City of Yes' zoning changes, homeless shelters in residential neighborhoods, and lithium-ion battery storage facilities. Named 'Battle for Brooklyn - The Trifecta,' the march was organized by New Yorkers First and other civic groups. Participants chanted opposition slogans while highlighting concerns that the 'City of Yes' initiative by Mayor Adams would diminish community input and prioritize private development over local needs, threatening the fabric of their neighborhoods.
"Make no mistake - this is about dismantling the American Dream. They're gutting our neighborhoods without consent. One- and two-family homes are being sacrificed for profit."
"Critics of Mayor Eric Adams' 'City of Yes' initiative say the plan would limit community input, reduce the influence of local community boards and open the floodgates for aggressive development driven by private interests."
