Assembly Member Monique Chandler-Waterman hosted a surprise community event on Nov. 22 at P.S. 135 in East Flatbush offering mental health resources and food to local families. The event provided youth access to mental health support and distributed turkeys, vegetables, potatoes and other pantry items to address food insecurity and rising grocery costs. Partners included IAmWonda Woman, P.S. 135, District 18, LinkNYC, the AD58 Mental Health Taskforce, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Music star Busta Rhymes made a special appearance and delivered a message of peace and giving. Hunger Solutions New York reports one in ten city residents faces food insecurity.
