Sheng Mao Chen, convicted of first-degree manslaughter, received a 25-year prison sentence for fatally stabbing Xiu Rong Zheng during a violent confrontation in 2019. The incident followed months of harassment stemming from an extramarital affair that ended awkwardly when Zheng ended the relationship. Chen, 48, attacked Zheng, 46, outside his home and stabbed her 35 times while her son witnessed. After the stabbing, Chen fled to Indiana, where he was captured and later extradited back to New York. Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez characterized the case as a horrifying instance of domestic violence, facilitating a measure of justice for Zheng's family.
On July 22, 2019, Zheng confronted Chen outside his home in Sunset Park, along with her 17-year-old son. Chen stabbed Zheng 35 times.
Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez stated, "This was a deeply disturbing case of domestic violence that ended in a brutal killing."
Chen immediately fled the state after the attack and was arrested days later in Indiana when police noticed blood on his pants.
After months of harassment, the defendant ambushed the victim and attacked her in front of his teenage son.
