The 40th Annual Holocaust Memorial Gathering was held in Sheepshead Bay, commemorating 80 years since the liberation of Nazi concentration camps. The event, hosted by the Holocaust Memorial Committee, not only served as a remembrance but also highlighted the urgent need to address rising antisemitism in New York City. Rabbi Baruch Binyamin Melman's invocation emphasized action with Israel's defenders. Civic leaders, including Council Member Inna Vernikov, asserted that honoring Holocaust memories involves confronting antisemitism. A tribute was paid to Yehuda Lindenblatt, who warned about the potential for future atrocities.
Rabbi Baruch Binyamin Melman reminded the crowd, "In the camps, we were acted upon. Today, with Israel and its defenders, we act. Am Yisroel Chai."
Council Member Inna Vernikov declared that honoring Holocaust memory means fighting antisemitism wherever it festers - from hospitals and universities to the streets. "We made sure a Hamas-supporting doctor was removed from Mount Sinai," she said.
Chief Richie Taylor of the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau recalled the late Yehuda Lindenblatt, who said, "He told me it could happen again - and that was in 1994. We must be the light in the darkness."
The Holocaust Memorial Committee hosted the 40th Annual Holocaust Memorial Gathering to commemorate 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, emphasizing the urgency of the refrain 'never again'.
