During the Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday morning, a 31-year-old runner suffered a fatal collapse shortly after the race began at 8:11 a.m. Medical personnel quickly responded and transported him to Maimonides Medical Center; however, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. The identity of the runner has not yet been released, and it is worth noting that over 28,000 participants were expected to partake in the marathon, which consists of a 13.1 mile course, according to the event organizers.
