Rooted in Caribbean tradition, Shanna Lord redefines Black hair wellness through trichology - Caribbean Life
"Before sea moss was a hashtag, we were taking it as children,"
"If something was boiling on the stove and smelled strong, we knew it was good for us."
"We were styling beautifully, but we weren't always asking why the hair was thinning, why the scalp was inflamed, or why the shedding wouldn't stop."
"Hair loss is rarely just cosmetic. Sometimes it's the first visible sign that something inside the body needs attention."
Shanna Lord grew up in a West Indian Brooklyn household where peppermint, bitters, and sea moss were used for herbal healing. Lord became a certified trichologist and founded SLS Hair and Scalp Wellness in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, combining ancestral remedies with clinical methods. Licensed since 2011, Lord shifted focus after the pandemic and personal hormonal imbalances to investigate connections between internal health, autoimmune conditions, and scalp disorders. Treatments begin with detailed scalp analyses and customized plans that address underlying causes rather than only cosmetic styling, reframing hair and scalp issues as signals of overall health.
