""Hurricane Melissa devastated the entire western Jamaica," Stephens told Caribbean Life . "As a Westmoreland man, I have to kind of just pay more attention to my parish. ""to bring comfort, supplies, and hope to residents devastated by Hurricane Melissa.""
""We loaded a truck with essential groceries and supplies and made the trek to the hard-hit community of Russia," he said. "When people can't get water for drinking and food for eating, you"
Hurricane Melissa struck western Jamaica on Oct. 28, killing at least 32 people and ripping roofs off an estimated 120,000 structures. Up to 90% of buildings in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth sustained damage. Dozens of reggae and dancehall artists, including Vybz Kartel, Shaggy, Popcaan, Spice, Romain Virgo, Buju Banton, and Mavado, contributed time and money to relief efforts. Richie Stephens returned to Russia, Westmoreland, raised funds from friends in New York, Florida, Canada, and the UK, and used personal funds to purchase thousands of care packages. He led a 15-member volunteer team that loaded a truck with groceries and supplies for affected communities.
