'Remember and honor': Canarsie Memorial Day pays tribute to the fallen * Brooklyn Paper
Residents, veterans, and local officials gathered in Canarsie for the annual Memorial Day Parade honoring fallen service members. The parade, presented by the Brooklyn Canarsie Lions Club, ran from 10 a.m. to noon despite rainy weather. It marched through the neighborhood, starting at the Holy Family parking lot and ending at the American Legion. After the march, a ceremony took place at Canarsie Cemetery, where elected officials and organizers reflected on Memorial Day’s meaning and the importance of remembrance. Assembly Member Jamie Williams praised community participation and described Memorial Day as both solemn and celebratory of freedoms. State Sen. Roxanne Persaud thanked the Canarsie Cemetery Organization and encouraged attendees to visit a veterans monument inside the cemetery.
