Op-Ed | Keeping New Yorkers safe with the lowest shootings in recorded history and six-straight quarters of declining crime | amNewYork
Briefly

The Adams administration is focused on public safety in New York City, aiming to ensure residents can safely engage in daily activities. Over 22,300 illegal guns have been removed from the streets, while subway crime and serious mental health challenges are being addressed. Crime is down significantly, with six consecutive quarters of declines since January 1, 2024. Shootings are at a historic low, and major crime has decreased by 5.5 percent. During June, all major crime categories saw reductions, contributing to a safer community.
Since the first day of our administration, we have been committed to making public safety our top priority. New Yorkers deserve to feel safe in their communities.
Crimes like homicide, robbery, and auto theft have significantly decreased, with a notable 54 percent drop in shootings compared to the same period in 2021.
Our strategy includes a comprehensive approach to tackle crime, mental health issues, and quality-of-life concerns, leading to substantial declines across all major crime categories.
As a result of our focus on public safety, we have now recorded six consecutive quarters of declining crime rates, highlighting the effectiveness of our measures.
