One man killed, another seriously injured in Brooklyn construction collapse
"The victims, ages 47 and 40, were caught in the collapse at the work site, on Jefferson St. near Central Ave. in Bushwick, around 8:33 a.m., according to law enforcement. Firefighters extracted the pair of men after finding them trapped inside a caved-in construction trench, according to an FDNY spokesman."
"The workers were removing debris as part of work on the building's foundation when rubble from a neighboring building's foundation collapsed onto the two workers, according to a Department of Buildings spokesman. DOB issued a full stop-work order for the site, in addition to partial vacate orders for the rear yards of neighboring buildings."
A fatal construction accident occurred Thursday morning in Bushwick, Brooklyn, when a wall collapsed at a work site on Jefferson Street near Central Avenue. Two workers, ages 47 and 40, were trapped in a caved-in construction trench while removing debris as part of foundation work. Firefighters extracted both men and transported them to Kings County Hospital, where the 47-year-old died and the 40-year-old remained in critical but stable condition. The collapse resulted from rubble from a neighboring building's foundation falling onto the workers. The Department of Buildings issued a full stop-work order for the site and partial vacate orders for neighboring properties until stabilization work is completed.
