NYPD arrests eight activists at Brooklyn Navy Yard protest over tenant ties * Brooklyn Paper
"I have seen them do a lot of work to make sure they are centering the marginalized, the Black and Brown people in our community, women-owned businesses, immigrants, [and] formerly incarcerated. We cannot do all that on the backs of a genocide,"
"It is nothing but hypocritical to uplift the marginalized here while harming the marginalized in Gaza. Our public resources should be responsive to the public and should go toward community-centered uses."
Eight demonstrators were arrested outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Sept. 17 during protests calling for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation to terminate leases for Crye Precision and Easy Aerial over alleged supplies to Israel’s military. The protest, organized by Demilitarize Brooklyn Navy Yard, coincided with a BNYDC board meeting; some activists rallied outside Building 92 while others staged a sit-in blocking the parking-lot entrance and a later noise demonstration and picket. State Sen. Jabari Brisport criticized a lack of transparency and accountability at BNYDC and called the situation hypocritical. A BNYDC spokesperson said leases are legally binding and outline compliance requirements.
