Nydia Velázquez endorsed Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso to run for the 7th Congressional District seat she is vacating, citing his deep connections to the district and record of delivering change. Velázquez said Reynoso will confront President Donald Trump unapologetically, fight to abolish ICE, push for New York City affordability, and defend Puerto Rican self-determination. The endorsement departs from Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s backing of Claire Valdez and follows two other recent Velázquez endorsements of traditional progressive candidates over DSA-backed challengers in local assembly races. Claire Valdez is widely expected to receive DSA support after a candidate forum.
