New Court of Claims judges have professional ties to Brooklyn

Governor Kathy Hochul announced 17 new judges to the New York State Court of Claims, including several with connections to Brooklyn. Among them is Abby Perer, who is in-house counsel for Syracuse University and earned her JD from Brooklyn Law School. Natacha Carbajal-Evangelista previously served as General Counsel for the state Department of State and worked as a Judicial Law Clerk in Brooklyn. Mary Lynn Nicolas-Brewster is the Executive Director of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission. Judge Rhonda Tomlinson, a Brooklyn native, has been on the Court of Claims since 2021.
Abby Perer, in-house counsel for Syracuse University, earlier earned her JD degree from Brooklyn Law School and served as a legal intern for Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman.
Natacha Carbajal-Evangelista served as General Counsel for the state Department of State and has experience as a Judicial Law Clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Downtown Brooklyn.
Mary Lynn Nicolas-Brewster is the Executive Director of the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission and previously served as a Senior Appellate Court Attorney for the New York State Appellate Division.
Judge Rhonda Tomlinson is a Brooklyn native who has been serving on the Court of Claims since 2021.
