""I have wanted to bring my dog to a blessing of the animals his entire life. I told him, 'I know you guys do a pantry for people here, but would you be interested in doing one about dogs, but for seniors?'""
""I've had that scooter for eight years," she said. "And from the very beginning, I trained my dog to ride in it.""
""Two Wednesdays ago, I left it where I always park it in front of where I live," she said. "The next day, I was like 'Where's my scooter?' It wasn't towed and I realized it was stolen.""
Kiso's Pet Food Pantry at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge provides free, tailored bags of dog and cat food to registered seniors every three months and also serves 20 to 30 walk-ups each distribution. The pantry began after a chance meeting between Michelle Giancola and a pastor and relies on donations from local pet stores, distributors, and neighbors. Giancola used a scooter for eight years to collect and transport donations and trained her dog to ride in it. The scooter was stolen recently, with neighbor footage showing two teenagers rolling it away, complicating small donation pickups but not ending pantry operations.
