In his first year with the Nets, Michael Porter Jr. is backing up his words
"Freed from the shadow of Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray in Denver, Michael Porter Jr. vowed to become a go-to scorer with the Nets. Over the last five games since Cam Thomas went down with a hamstring injury, he's done exactly that. The former NBA champion has averaged 27.3 points over that stretch, highlighted by a season-high 34 on 11-for-18 shooting in Brooklyn's 129-106 win over the Wizards on Sunday."
"He's also getting to the free throw line more frequently than at any point in his career, a sign of his growing assertiveness as a primary scorer. There's still work to be done if Porter is going to fully grow into this role, but it's clear he's improved in the areas the Nets needed most. He's hunting contact, creating his own looks and carrying stretches of the offense in a way he rarely had to in Denver."
Michael Porter Jr. has stepped into a primary scoring role for the Nets, averaging 27.3 points across five games since Cam Thomas's hamstring injury and recording a season-high 34. Turnovers have risen to 2.3 per game from 1.4 in Denver and overall efficiency has dipped slightly, but shooting and aggression have improved. Porter is getting to the free throw line more often, hunting contact, creating his own looks and carrying offensive stretches. He is the ninth player in franchise history with at least four 30-point outings through the first 13 games, and assists have risen toward 3.7 per game recently.
