'I know you are, but what am I?': Coney Island USA to hold Pee-wee Herman look-alike contest this weekend * Brooklyn Paper
Briefly

A Pee-wee Herman look-alike contest will take place in Coney Island to mark Paul Reubens' early birthday and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The contest includes categories such as Best Pee-wee, Pee-wee's Playhouse for TV characters like Miss Yvonne and Cowboy Curtis, and Pee-wee Movie Character for film roles. Adam Rinn and Little Brooklyn will judge and award Coney-themed prizes for first through third place in each category. The event was inspired by a Mermaid Parade performance by the Pee-wee Mermen. The kickoff is Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.; registration is free and open to everyone.

"And part of our mission is to preserve this type of popular culture through performances and events such as this."
"Coney Island is all about fun and spectacle," Little Brooklyn said. "We can't wait to see how creative the people of New York City and beyond are going to get."
