"In the midst of so many changes in our city -- from gentrification to welcoming new immigrants -- we believe that the legacy of this Sanctuary as a space of safety and community -- can continue to serve the spiritual and material needs of Fort Greene and Brooklyn to embolden and encourage us to work together to build a more just and inclusive world."
"Since the ceiling collapse, services have continued in the Underwood Chapel, accessible from 85 South Oxford St."
Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Fort Greene is launching a $3.5 million restoration campaign after a ceiling collapse forced the sanctuary to close. This campaign, named Opening Doors, aims to fund essential repairs, including restoring a historic pipe organ and ensuring ADA accessibility. The church plays a crucial role in its community, hosting various events and programs. Thanks to a matching grant from the Buckhorn Association of Brooklyn, every dollar donated before December 31, 2025, will be matched up to $60,000. Additional grants have facilitated inspections and outlined repair needs for the sanctuary.
