Help This Fort Greene Church Shine Again
Briefly

Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Fort Greene is launching a $3.5 million restoration campaign after a ceiling collapse forced the sanctuary to close. This campaign, named Opening Doors, aims to fund essential repairs, including restoring a historic pipe organ and ensuring ADA accessibility. The church plays a crucial role in its community, hosting various events and programs. Thanks to a matching grant from the Buckhorn Association of Brooklyn, every dollar donated before December 31, 2025, will be matched up to $60,000. Additional grants have facilitated inspections and outlined repair needs for the sanctuary.
In the midst of so many changes in our city -- from gentrification to welcoming new immigrants -- we believe that the legacy of this Sanctuary as a space of safety and community -- can continue to serve the spiritual and material needs of Fort Greene and Brooklyn to embolden and encourage us to work together to build a more just and inclusive world.
Since the ceiling collapse, services have continued in the Underwood Chapel, accessible from 85 South Oxford St.
