Hateful attacker spews anti-Jewish comments, pummels man and grabs yarmulke on NYC train: cops

"The victim was riding a southbound N train passing through the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station around 10:45 a.m. Monday when the masked stranger punched him repeatedly while hurling the vitriol, police said. The deranged assailant then grabbed the victim's religious headwear before fleeing the scene, authorities said."

"Anti-Jewish hate crimes accounted for more than half of the bias incidents reported in January and in February to the NYPD, department data shows. On Jan. 28, a New Jersey man allegedly rammed his car into the iconic Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights, Brooklyn."

"The assailant is described as a man with a dark complexion and slim build, last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, khaki pants, black jacket, black surgical facemask, black shoes, and carrying an orange bookbag."

A hate crime occurred on a southbound N train at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station in Brooklyn when a masked attacker verbally assaulted a 54-year-old Jewish man with antisemitic comments, then physically attacked him with repeated punches and stole his religious headwear. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The suspect escaped on a Manhattan-bound N train and was last seen at Canal Street station. The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is investigating. This incident reflects a broader pattern of antisemitic violence in New York, with anti-Jewish hate crimes comprising over half of reported bias incidents in January and February, including vehicle ramming attacks, assaults on rabbis, and vandalism.
