Grandfather pushed unprovoked onto Manhattan subway tracks may not survive: family
"It doesn't look good. He is on life support. We're just going to stay by his bed. We're sitting here with him. We're praying for him and we love him and we're going to stay with him."
"He's an incredible man. He likes reading. He likes walking. Richard lives on Roosevelt Island and was on his way to go shopping on the Upper East Side like he always does when he was attacked."
"He goes wherever he wants to go. He's very healthy for an 83 year old man that's going to be 84. There's absolutely nothing wrong with him. So for this whole thing to happen, it's a real sin."
Richard Williams, an 83-year-old Air Force veteran, was pushed onto subway tracks at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station on the Upper East Side. The assailant also pushed a 30-year-old man onto the tracks moments before attacking Williams. The younger victim helped Williams back onto the platform, and bystanders assisted both men before a train arrived. The attacker fled but was arrested Tuesday for attempted murder. Williams remains hospitalized on life support and unable to speak. His daughter describes him as healthy and active before the attack, recently celebrating his 55th wedding anniversary and enjoying regular activities like shopping and reading.
