Grand Central Madison gets new accessible entrance at 45th Street, boosting access to LIRR riders | amNewYork
About 72,000 daily Long Island Rail Road riders use Grand Central Madison, which opened to the public in early 2023. A new entrance at 45th Street and Madison Avenue opened with an ADA-accessible design that includes an elevator, three escalators, and a staircase. The $64 million project was delivered through a public-private partnership between the MTA and BXP, which is developing 343 Madison Ave. This entrance is the third of five planned new entrances built using public-private partnerships. Two additional entrances were built by the MTA, and the remaining entrances are located north at 383 Madison Ave and on 48th Street. Lease payments and property tax revenues are projected to generate about $1 billion over time for the MTA’s capital program.
"MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said the agreement will also allow the MTA to rake in a projected $1 billion over time from lease payments and property tax revenues for the site. Those dollars will go toward the agency's capital program, he said. Lieber also noted just how important the East Side LIRR terminal is."
