Former NYPD officer Michael DeCillis enters Democratic primary in NY-11 * Brooklyn Paper
"I'm running because President Trump and Congressional Republicans including Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis are destroying democracy at home, and diplomacy and security abroad. We're all struggling to pay bills while inflation and tariffs eat into our already thin family budgets. Families are finding it nearly impossible to afford healthcare, groceries, our kids' education, and their homes, while Trump and his friends made literal billions through tax cuts and grift."
"Malliotakis has supported every inhumane, cruel, and unconstitutional policy that Trump has implemented. House Republicans have been absent for the past year and failed to act as a co-equal branch of government."
Michael DeCillis, a fourth-generation Staten Islander with a background in law enforcement, emergency services, and education, launched a congressional campaign in New York's 11th district. DeCillis, who previously served as a paramedic during 9/11 and worked as a special education teacher and political advisor, criticized Republican incumbent Nicole Malliotakis and the Trump administration. He condemned policies affecting inflation, healthcare costs, and education affordability, while attacking Republican support for ICE enforcement and military actions. DeCillis argued that House Republicans have failed to function as a co-equal branch of government and have supported what he characterized as inhumane and unconstitutional policies.
