Flatbush Frolic Celebrates Neighborhood's Cultural Offerings
"Flatbush is just extremely special and very unique in the way that it has such a rich cultural significance, from the rich Caribbean community to the Victorian homes that people will see on their way to the festival,"
"When you walk down Cortelyou Road, you hear so many different languages, and you can try so many different foods, and it really amplifies that,"
The Flatbush Frolic returns to Cortelyou Road on September 21, bringing more than 200 vendors, live performances, and food stalls between Ocean and Coney Island avenues. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and has been hosted by the Flatbush Development Corporation since the mid-1970s. The event showcases multicultural food including Caribbean classics, an Italian sausage truck, Mexican and Indian vendors, plus steel drum bands, Mexican folk dancing, and local rock. The festival will expand its focus on artists and makers with handmade jewelry, clothing, and visual art. Attendance typically tops 10,000, celebrating Flatbush's cultural diversity and community pride.
