""The graffiti part - I feel like it represents the community and the culture within Brooklyn," Melezhik said. "It's both an inspiration inside of Brooklyn, but also it's something that is well known and inspires others outside of Brooklyn.""
Mellina Melezhik, a 17-year-old from Brighton Beach, won the inaugural Brooklyn Pin Design Competition with her design of a spray-painted R160 subway car. Inspired by her experiences riding the Q train and the vibrant graffiti culture, she aimed to capture Brooklyn's spirit. Melezhik expressed surprise at her win, noting the significance of her design being worn by many. Borough President Antonio Reynoso praised her work for its artistic creativity and representation of Brooklyn's transportation and cultural identity.
