Ellis Ludwig-Leone, founder of the indie rock group San Fermin, has a diverse career as a composer. He will debut his new immersive concert experience, The Woods, at Pioneer Works. The event features a mix of San Fermin songs, original arrangements, multiple stages, and performances by musicians, dancers, and singers. Unlike traditional shows, it does not follow a linear narrative, aiming instead to engage the audience in a distinct world. Characters in the show reflect audience experiences, inviting communal participation in a dance ritual.
The Woods will feature San Fermin songs from throughout their catalogue, some original arrangements and several stages throughout the large room that will host both a scattering of musicians and professional dancers and singers.
Ludwig-Leone isn't a fan of "jukebox musicals," or shows that create plot out of a body of songs. This project resists a straightforward narrative.
The first thought that we had was to prioritize the audience experience. So we were like, 'Okay, how do we create a world that the audience can enter?'
