Death Toll Rises In Navy Tall Ship Crash Into Brooklyn Bridge | The Bobby Bones Show
Briefly

A tragic accident occurred on May 17, 2023, when the Mexican navy ship Cuauhtémoc collided with the Brooklyn Bridge after reportedly losing power. The incident resulted in two fatalities and left 17 others injured, with two in critical condition. Eyewitness accounts described chaotic scenes of sailors falling from the vessel's sails as it struck the bridge, which has a maximum clearance of 135 feet. First responders quickly launched a search, but thankfully confirmed no crew members fell into the waters. The accident left witnesses shocked and traumatized, as many were gathered to cheer for the ship's departure.
The boat was coming under the bridge, and there were sailors on top of the boat, the sails hit the bridge and then people were falling off of the boat sails.
We were scared - a lot of people were screaming, a lot of people were crying. We were celebrating and we were saying goodbye and singing.
I'm retired Navy Capt. Alfred S. McClaren described the accident as "inconceivable" to the New York Post.
The Cuauhtémoc, a vessel carrying 277 crew members on a goodwill visit to New York, was reported to have lost power while sailing to Iceland.
