City gets more than 50k applications for pre-k in two weeks
"CITYWIDE - OVER 50,000 NEW York families have submitted applications for the city's pre-k programs for three- and four-year-olds so far this year, reports Chalkbeat , only two weeks into the application period. Families can still apply throughout the next month; the window closes Feb. 27, and all children who apply by the deadline will receive placement in a program, the city said."
"Applications are on track to outpace numbers from last year, when, following what some advocates called a lapse of attention to outreach by the Adams administration, more than 27,000 of the city's free pre-k seats went unfilled. Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Friday visited childcare providers in an effort to get the word out to parents about the availability of the programs. "Every child deserves access to free, high quality childcare - and we're making sure families across the city know that now is the time to enroll in 3-k and pre-K," Mamdani said."
