CITIBINS expands to combat trash in parks
Briefly

CITIBINS, lockable, rat-proof aluminum trash containers, are being installed throughout Brooklyn, including in seven parks and eight business improvement districts. This initiative, noted by the Brooklyn Eagle, aims to enhance cleanliness and aesthetics in the area. COO Frank Picarazzi highlighted that before CITIBINS, trash bags would often accumulate unsightly on corners before collection. The first installation on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade occurred in January 2024. The next expected location is Herbert Von King Park in Bed-Stuy, along with plans for 150 additional bins in residential neighborhoods to comply with city mandates.
"Prior to CITIBINS, these bags would just pile up on a corner waiting for DSNY," said COO Frank Picarazzi to News12 Brooklyn earlier this week. "Now, they are going into these rodent-proof containers. It really adds to the aesthetic of the district."
The lockable, rat-proof aluminum trash containers are expanding across the borough, with installations in seven parks and eight business improvement districts. These bins prevent rodent access and improve aesthetics.
