Maimonides Medical Center is working to finalize an agreement to join NYC Health+Hospitals after years of financial struggles. Joining would allow access to higher Medicaid reimbursement rates available to public hospitals and eligibility for $2.2 billion in state grant funding over five years through the Safety Net Transformation Program. The hospitals first proposed the partnership two years earlier and jointly sought state support. Maimonides reported a $15 million loss in the first three quarters of 2025 and narrow overall earnings, while more than 80% of patients are covered by Medicaid and Medicare and reimbursements do not fully cover costs.
"taken steps toward"

"This presents a historic opportunity for Maimonides to expand our capacity to deliver high-quality care, meet the growing needs of our communities, and strengthen our financial position at a time when Federal cuts threaten to reduce support for safety net hospitals."
"treats all patients, regardless of ability to pay."
