Brooklyn's AAPI Communities Rally For More City Funds
Briefly

On May 13, 2025, over 70 AAPI advocates and community members rallied in Bensonhurst Park, calling for equitable funding for Brooklyn's diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The event was supported by City Council Members and the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families' 18% and Growing campaign. Participants stressed the urgent need for increased funding for crucial programs that support AAPI individuals and promote equity. Advocacy focuses on enhancing access to social services and health initiatives, against a backdrop of significant underinvestment relative to other communities, threatening public safety and quality of life.
At a time when so many New Yorkers are worried about the future of the programs and social services they rely on, it's more important than ever for New York City Council to invest in initiatives that uplift the needs of every day people.
The AAPI community is the fastest growing community and we cannot be ignored. In the last budget, the city invested less than 6% in AAPI communities. That is one third of what every other New Yorker is receiving.
