The Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is launching special-edition Liberty-themed library cards in partnership with the New York Liberty WNBA team. Starting June 2, only 100,000 cards will be distributed at BPL branches, available to anyone in New York state with proof of identity. The initiative is part of a broader collaboration that includes summer reading programs designed to inspire youth in Brooklyn. The team’s mascot, Ellie the Elephant, has even curated a reading list to promote themes of empowerment and community in sports.
"Brooklyn Public Library is thrilled to partner with the 2024 WNBA Champions New York Liberty, their mascot Ellie the Elephant, and Brooklyn Basketball," said a BPL spokesperson.
"The Liberty-themed cards are just part of a summer-long partnership between the Liberty and the library, supporting BPL's summer reading initiatives."
