Good Call, a nonprofit providing essential legal support during arrests, has received the 2025 Spark Prize worth $100,000 from Brooklyn Org. This funding will allow for the expansion of its technological infrastructure, enhancing the efficiency of services offered to underprivileged communities. With a 24/7 hotline, Good Call ensures timely legal assistance for arrested individuals, facilitating immediate access to attorneys for rights explanations and advice. Executive Director Jelani Anglin highlights the urgency of providing prompt legal guidance, particularly in the critical hours post-arrest, to prevent coercion and protect individual rights.
When folks are arrested, it's like entering a black hole. They have no idea what's happening, and their family has no idea where they are.
The time of being arrested is make or break. You could be coerced into signing a statement under duress. We just want to make sure we're here, and we have the city's back.
We want to provide the attorneys that are doing this work more efficient tools so that they can have a better experience.
The funds from the Spark Prize will allow Good Call to enhance its technology, providing attorneys with more efficient tools to navigate cases and better serve their clients.
