Brooklyn Defender Services has officially taken over the criminal defense practice previously held by Queens Defenders following the arrest of its former executive director on federal fraud charges. The transition includes assuming a $32 million city contract to provide defense for low-income clients, with Brooklyn Defender Services hiring all criminal defense attorneys and support staff from Queens Defenders. This setup will operate from the existing office locations of Queens Defenders, emphasizing a commitment to providing significant legal representation free of charge to those in need.
After 29 years of experience and expertise serving Brooklyn, we are proud to bring the same dedication and excellence to Queens residents. We will continue in our mission to provide outstanding representation and advocacy free of cost to people facing loss of freedom, family separation and other serious legal harms.
Despite many challenges over the past year, the staff in Queens have remained deeply committed to their clients and their work.
