"A prosecutor would not be able to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt at trial that the officer's use of deadly physical force was justified under the law."
"Body-worn camera footage shows Louther pulling a large kitchen knife from his waistband and stepping toward the cops, telling them 'you're gonna have to put a bullet in me.'"
A Brooklyn police officer, James Humpf, will not be charged for the fatal shooting of Damon Louther, who threatened the officers with a knife. The incident occurred on May 13, 2025, after officers responded to a domestic violence call. Body-worn camera footage captured Louther brandishing a knife and demanding the officers shoot him. Officer Humpf fired two shots, fatally wounding Louther, who later died at the hospital. The Attorney General stated that the officer's use of deadly force was legally justified, and the officers remain on active duty pending an internal review.
