"I want answers. We don't get any answers. I want the NYPD to start doing better. There are too many cold cases out there. I don't want my son's case to be a cold case or an ongoing investigation for 20 years."
"Michael was a shining, old soul for 27. I don't care how many it was. I want them all held accountable. I forgive [Rentas] because God forgives us, right? [God] forgives us for our sins every day that we commit. And who am I to not forgive him for his sin? Because I'm a mother."
Michael Hernandez, 27, was killed on March 14, 2025, during a large gathering outside Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn. His mother, Marisol Miranda, expresses frustration with the NYPD's lack of communication and inconsistent information about suspects. Police initially reported searching for six to eight men, then changed the account to four or five suspects. Eighteen-year-old Noah Rentas was arrested on March 25 and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Despite forgiving Rentas, Miranda remains frustrated with the investigation's progress and lack of police contact since October 2025. She fears the case will become a cold case and calls for improved police accountability.
