Placido Dandrea, 78, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Gravesend, Brooklyn on Tuesday evening. Dandrea and his wife were returning home from a doctor's appointment when a commercial Ford van struck an FDNY fire truck at the intersection of W. 11th Street and Avenue S around 6:45 p.m. The impact sent the fire truck into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with the Access-A-Ride bus carrying Dandrea, which then struck a Lexus SUV behind it. Dandrea's daughter was on the phone with her mother when the crash occurred and witnessed paramedics attempting to revive her father. He was transported to South Brooklyn Health in critical condition but could not be saved.
