Shucked, a whimsical barnyard rom-com featuring Sophie McShera, has made its way to London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre after pandemic-related delays. The show centers around Maizy, a cornfield heroine, who postpones her wedding to Beau in search of a solution to their failing corn crop in the heart of Cob Town. With a mix of Country and Western music, the narrative unfolds as Maizy embarks on a journey to save their community from disaster, proving that it's as much about love and community as it is about corn.
When the corn crop fails, Maizy deems this a terrible omen and postpones her wedding to sweetheart Beau in search of an agricultural miracle.
To say Shucked is about corn is akin to saying Bridget Jones is about big knickers. At its heart, it's a gentle romantic comedy.
The musical numbers are Country and Western in flavour, with a dash of Bugsy Malone or Chicago, where Maizy goes in search of solving how to make the corn grow once more.
