'Finish the job': Boston Marathon runner who crawled to finish reflects on race
Briefly

In the recent Boston Marathon, Villanova University student Matthew Nawn showcased immense perseverance when he collapsed just before crossing the finish line. At 20 years old, this was Nawn's first Boston Marathon, and despite experiencing severe cramping, he crawled across the finish line to complete the race. Nawn had trained diligently and qualified during the Harrisburg Marathon in November 2023. Although he faced physical challenges, including vomiting on multiple occasions and tightening legs, his strong desire to finish motivated him to not give up, inspiring hope for next year's race.
My body just locked up and I collapsed, but I wanted to finish the race more than anything. I crawled over the line.
It's definitely something that I do as a hobby, and I tell people running helps keep me sane.
