Paul Blackburn has been signed by the Yankees as a right-handed pitcher. Allan Winans was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as the corresponding roster move. The team had an available 40-man roster spot after JT Brubaker was designated for assignment earlier this month. Blackburn was observed in the Yankees' clubhouse and has indicated that he expects to work out of the bullpen. The signing fills the open roster spot and shifts Winans to Triple-A while giving the club an additional right-handed pitching option available from the bullpen.
