""If we get this [offense] back, we can find at-bats. That's his tool - offense.""
""He's going to play mostly outfield," Cora told reporters, including MassLive's Chris Smith. "But we cannot forget about the infield part of it because you never know what can happen ... All his work will be in the outfield. Individual work will be with [infield coordinator José Flores] whenever. That's what we're doing.""
Kristian Campbell enters spring training with an uncertain pathway to regular playing time despite clear long-term potential. Campbell opened 2025 in Boston, signed an eight-year, $60 million extension, and won AL Rookie of the Month in April. He regressed during the season, struggling defensively at second base and at the plate, and was optioned to Triple-A Worcester in June without returning. The Red Sox appear to be moving Campbell off second base, with Marcelo Mayer, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Caleb Durbin listed as second-base options to start 2026. Alex Cora confirmed Campbell will be used mostly in the outfield while receiving occasional infield work. Campbell posted minus-16 defensive runs saved at second in 2025.
