Trevor Story hit one of the most bizarre home runs in Fenway Park's history
"I don't think it should have been a homer. Maybe a double because of the situation, but not a homer."
"Trevor with that bomb,"
"Brenly was the one that saw the whole thing,"
"We screamed Pesky [from the dugout] and kind of took off [trying to see it], and then they had the call, and [bench coach] Ramon [Vázquez] called Mikey, and he was like, 'We have to challenge this one'. And we did."
The Red Sox beat the Guardians 6-4 after a controversial sixth-inning Trevor Story home run at Fenway Park. Story's 23rd homer traveled about 306 feet down the right-field line and ricocheted in a pinball sequence off Cleveland right fielder Jhonkensy Noel's glove, the Pesky Pole, Noel's glove again and then a fan. Umpires initially ruled the play a foul and Story assumed a ground-rule double, but the Red Sox challenged and replay review awarded a home run. Manager Alex Cora credited replay coordinator Mike Brenly and bench coach Ramon Vázquez for initiating the successful challenge.
