Smash or Pass: Nolan Arenado
Briefly

Smash or Pass: Nolan Arenado
"Nolan Arenado is a veteran third-baseman known for his very good defense (he has 10 Gold Gloves to date). He was on the Rockies from 2013-2020 before being traded to the Cardinals in 2021, where he has since remained, until very possibly this offseason. Trading for him would likely cost some minor prospects and money for the Cardinals to use in their rebuild."
"His strikeout and whiff rates were low, which was good, but he wasn't consistently getting hits, clutch or otherwise. His fielding was good, but not stellar-he didn't win a Gold Glove this year. He was an all-star as recently as 2023, but last year's stats paint the picture of a vet on the decline. He could always have a better season this coming year, barring injuries."
Nolan Arenado is a veteran third baseman who earned 10 Gold Gloves and moved from the Rockies to the Cardinals in a 2021 trade. The Cardinals are rebuilding and are likely to consider trading Arenado, which would require minor prospects and salary relief. Cardinals GM Craig has been willing to trade prospects selectively, as seen in the Crochet deal, but he has not been liberal with prospect capital. Red Sox pitching prospects are likely off the table, narrowing feasible trade packages. Arenado's 2025 performance showed declining offense despite low strikeout and whiff rates, and he did not win a Gold Glove.
