Cincinnati designated a catcher for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster. The team filled the roster spot by officially announcing a previously reported agreement with veteran right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack. To create an active roster opening, right-hander Rhett Lowder was placed on the 15-day injured list. Manager Terry Francona had indicated a few days earlier that Lowder would go on the IL due to shoulder troubles.
