"For the majority of its mid stages, it had ugly loss written all over it. Ceddanne Rafaela failed to make not one, but two plays he would normally secure, each leading to an Oriole run. Then, Roman Anthony, Alex Bregman and Trevor Story came up and blew a first and third nobody out situation in the eighth after Connor Wong and David Hamilton of all people set that table."
"After being mired in a terrible slump at the plate, he launches his first home run since July 13th against a guy who just made the best hitters in the Sox lineup look silly the inning before. Two of Rafaela's last three home runs have now been ninth inning shots that gave the Red Sox the lead (win) from when they were previously trailing."
The game swung dramatically late after a series of midgame setbacks. Ceddanne Rafaela missed two routine plays that each produced an Oriole run, and the Red Sox squandered a first-and-third, nobody-out chance in the eighth when Roman Anthony, Alex Bregman, and Trevor Story failed to deliver after Connor Wong and David Hamilton set the table. Garrett Crochet prepared to close, and Brayan Bello again pitched spectacularly, creating a wasted outing with postseason and division implications. Rafaela, mired in a slump, hit his first homer since July 13, a ninth-inning shot that reversed a deficit and secured the win with Jarren Duran on base despite his poor lefty numbers.
