MLB: All-Star DH Kyle Schwarber Returning To The Phillies On A Five-Year, $150M Deal
""I've always said there's going to be mutual interest between both of us," Schwarber said when asked about returning to Philadelphia following the Phillies' playoff series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I'm looking forward to seeing when a conversation will be had and going from there.""
""He's been great for us. He's our leader," said Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper in July. "He's one of the best teammates I've ever had, ever been around... He's one of the best teammates I've ever been around and one of the better guys I've ever played with, so I can't see him in any other uniform. And, I think he deserves to be here.""
""Well, number one is he's really talented. He's a great hitter. He's turned himself into a great hitter," manager Rob Thomson said of Schwarber earlier this year. "But, it's off the field, in the clubhouse, he is one of the best guys I have ever been around to tell you the truth... He's just the ultimate pro.""
Kyle Schwarber signed a five-year, $150 million deal to return to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Cincinnati Reds also presented offers. Schwarber hit a career-high 56 home runs and recorded 132 RBIs, leading the National League in homers and all of baseball in RBIs, and finished second in NL MVP voting. He joined the Phillies in March 2022 on a four-year, $79 million contract. With Philadelphia he has compiled 528 hits, 187 home runs, 434 RBIs, a .226 batting average and an .856 OPS. Teammates and the manager praised his leadership and professionalism.
