"It will never be just Danny": Donnie Wahlberg teases Blue Bloods characters' return in Boston Blue
Briefly

Boston Blue, the spin-off of the canceled series Blue Bloods, will feature Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as Danny Reagan. Wahlberg hinted at the possibility of other Reagan family members appearing in the new series. He expressed the challenges of continuing the franchise without the original cast but believes this opportunity can keep the legacy of Blue Bloods alive. The show transitions from New York to Boston, where Danny partners with another officer, Lena Peters, to uphold the traditions of the Reagan family while tackling crime.
Now, it's just Danny going to this new world, but I can't say a lot about it - but I could say, if he's a Reagan, it will never be just Danny. There'll always be a Reagan a phone call away. And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn't abandon those traditions.
It was definitely a challenge to take on this opportunity, but I kept saying to myself, you know, if I'm really sincere about wanting 'Blue Bloods' to carry on, here's an opportunity to do it... It was heavy, you know?
How do I do this? Like, how does [his character] Danny Reagan carry on? You know, how do we create this new world for this character, and how do we do it in another city, not in New York?
The spin-off was picked up by CBS in February 2025, two months after the Blue Bloods finale.
